The Executive Management of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has condemned in the strongest terms the brutal murder of Mr. Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the NHIA, describing the act as heinous, heartbreaking, and unacceptable.
Mr. Akugri was reportedly attacked and murdered by unknown assailants at Nangodi, a community near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. His body was later set ablaze, sending shockwaves across the nation and prompting urgent calls for justice.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, May 20, the NHIA expressed profound sorrow over the loss, stating:
The statement described Mr. Akugri as a loyal, committed, and highly respected officer who served the Authority and the people of Bongo with distinction and integrity.
The NHIA has called on the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.
In response to the tragedy, NHIA Executive Management has dispatched a delegation to provide support to the bereaved family and staff at the Bongo District Office.
The Authority also pledged to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies to facilitate investigations.
A part of the statement reads, “Mr. Akugri was a dedicated, hardworking, and highly respected member of the NHIA family who served with distinction, commitment, and integrity. His untimely and tragic death is a devastating loss not only to his family and colleagues but also to the entire NHIA and the people of Bongo whom he diligently served.”
It added, “The Authority strongly condemns this unfortunate and heinous act and calls on the Ghana Police Service and other relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice. Executive Management has dispatched a delegation to support the bereaved family and staff of the Bongo District Office during this difficult period. We are also working closely with law enforcement to aid in investigations.”
