The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has joined Ghanaians in mourning the death of highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC described Daddy Lumba as a unifying force in Ghanaian music who transcended political and generational divides.
“Daddy Lumba belonged to that class of Ghanaian musicians who transcended every barrier and was loved and admired by each and every one of his fellow citizen,” the statement noted.
“His death is yet another sad testament of the unpredictability of life and death, and the merciless manner in which it claims the bright and the beautiful, and the young and the old.”
The party extended its deepest condolences to the family, assuring them of its support during this difficult period.
“As the family and friends prepare to give him a befitting burial, the NDC party stands ready to be of comfort and assistance to the family as they go through this painful experience,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the family of the late music icon has opened a book of condolence for the public to pay their respects.
In a statement issued by Baba Jamal & Associates, legal representatives of the Fosu family, the condolence book will be available for signing at Daddy Lumba’s private residence on Kinshasha Crescent in Accra, starting Tuesday, July 29. The book will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The 60-year-old highlife legend died while receiving treatment at the Bank Hospital in Accra.
To honour his memory, a candlelight vigil will be held at Independence Square on Saturday, August 2, at 6:00 p.m.
The vigil, organized by the Creative Arts Agency, is expected to bring together fans, fellow musicians, and admirers from all walks of life in a solemn celebration of Daddy Lumba’s life and musical legacy.
The Office of the President has assured the family that the late icon will be accorded a state-assisted burial in recognition of his immense contribution to Ghana’s music industry and cultural heritage.
The family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love, support, and prayers received since the news of his passing and urged the public to continue to respect their privacy.
Details of the final funeral rites will be announced in due course.
