A 32-year-old man identified as Akoto Nelson has been arrested by the National Operations Directorate (NOD) Surveillance Unit of the Ghana Police Service for impersonating a police officer during a musical event at the Black Star Square in Accra.
The suspect was nabbed on Sunday, October 19, 2025, after security personnel on duty noticed him wearing a police uniform with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and exhibiting suspicious behaviour.
During questioning, Akoto confessed that he was not a member of the Ghana Police Service and had only disguised himself as an officer to gain free entry to the show since he could not afford the entry fee.

Further investigations revealed that the police uniform he wore originally belonged to a deceased Chief Inspector identified as Gyasi, from whom the suspect reportedly acquired the items in 2022.

A search conducted at his residence in Taifa-Ashaiman led to the discovery of several incriminating items including a toy pistol, pepper spray, two ZTE mini phones, a pouch, charger, cutter knife, complimentary cards, and personal identification documents bearing his name.
Police investigations also established that Akoto works as a security guard and messenger at a private company. He is currently in custody and will be arraigned before court.
