President John Dramani Mahama nominated renowned biomedical scientist and seasoned academic, Professor Ohene Adjei, as Ghana’s next ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Prof. Adjei’s nomination is part of a broader diplomatic announcement by the Presidency, which includes 15 distinguished individuals appointed as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consul-Generals to represent Ghana across the globe.
The nominations follow consultations with the Council of State and were contained in an official letter from the Office of the President, dated June 10, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.

With over three decades of experience as a qualified biomedical scientist, Prof. Adjei brings to the role not only extensive academic and research credentials but also deep cultural and professional ties with Germany.
A fluent German speaker, Prof. Adjei studied at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and worked at the prestigious Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg.
His ability to speak and write both German and English, alongside his native Twi, positions him as an ideal candidate to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic and scientific ties with Germany.
In Ghana, Prof. Adjei has made significant contributions to health, research, and education.
He served as a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where his hard work earned him promotion to full professor in 2005.
He also served as Deputy Director at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR), a German-funded research institute, and has published over 80 scientific papers in reputable international journals.
In 2009, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, one of Ghana’s foremost health facilities.
His dedication to public service also saw him serve on the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), now the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), where he chaired the council’s Education Committee.
Beyond his academic and professional achievements, Prof. Adjei is a committed member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He currently serves as an Executive Member of the party in the Oforikrom Constituency in the Ashanti Region and played a vital role on the NDC’s 2024 election campaign team.
He is also an active supporter and activist in the Ayesuano Constituency in the Eastern Region and a member of the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders.
Prof. Adjei’s political engagements further extend to the NDC Professionals Forum (ProForum), where he has served twice as the Global Vice President, and currently as the Acting President, following the passing of the late Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley.
Known for his eloquence, assertiveness, and ability to thrive under pressure, Prof. Adjei’s nomination is seen as a strategic choice to enhance Ghana’s diplomatic, scientific, and economic cooperation with Germany.
Other notable nominations announced by President Mahama include Benjamin A. Quashie (South Africa), Kojo Bonsu (China), Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe (Spain), Nii Amasah Namoale (Brazil), and Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso (India), among others.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to facilitate the appointment processes for all nominees.
