President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced this in a statement on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
This year’s General Assembly is being held under the global theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.”
President Mahama is expected to deliver Ghana’s national statement during the General Debate on Thursday, 25th September, becoming the first Ghanaian leader to return to the UNGA podium after an eight-year break.
As the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions, President Mahama will also host high-level side events on Africa’s financial sovereignty and co-lead a session with Senegal on reparatory justice for Africans and people of African descent.
Beyond the UNGA, his itinerary includes bilateral meetings with world leaders, an engagement with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce, and a historic appearance at NASDAQ to ring the closing bell.
First Lady Lordina Mahama will join him in New York, participating in events organized by African First Ladies and delivering a keynote at a World Vision International prayer service.
The delegation, comprising senior ministers and presidential aides, is scheduled to return to Ghana on 30th September 2025.
The President’s delegation includes Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama, Special Aide and Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The rest are Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and GIPC CEO Simon Madjie.
