Ghana has extended practical support to Jamaica’s post-hurricane recovery with the delivery of engineering equipment to assist ongoing reconstruction works.
The Ghana Navy said the items, provided by President John Dramani Mahama, were handed over during a working visit by a Ghanaian delegation led by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on January 25.
The visit formed part of Ghana’s participation in a multinational humanitarian response following Hurricane Melissa, with Ghanaian military engineers already deployed on the ground to support rebuilding efforts.
The delegation also included Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi, Chief of the Army Staff Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, and Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Caribbean, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah.
During the visit, the delegation inspected housing reconstruction projects being executed by Ghanaian personnel and received briefings on operational progress, challenges, and the welfare of the deployed troops.
Officials from both countries commended the engineering teams for their commitment, describing the joint efforts involving Ghana, Jamaica, and Guyana as a strong demonstration of regional cooperation in disaster response.
