President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the LPG vessel MT Asharami Ghana in the Republic of Korea, describing the project as an important boost to Ghana’s energy infrastructure and gas distribution network across West Africa.
The modern LPG carrier, designed to transport liquefied petroleum gas efficiently and safely, is expected to support the movement of gas supplies to countries that depend partly on imports for domestic and industrial use.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, March 12, President Mahama praised the collaboration among international partners, engineers, and industry stakeholders that made the project possible.
“Today, we celebrate not only engineering excellence but also the power of partnership. The commissioning of this state-of-the-art, dual-fuel, fully refrigerated LPG carrier reflects the collective vision and collaboration of stakeholders committed to advancing safe, efficient, and responsible energy distribution,” he said.

According to the President, the vessel represents more than just an addition to energy infrastructure, noting that it demonstrates the benefits of global partnerships in tackling Africa’s energy needs.
“The commissioning of this vessel underscores the enduring value of international cooperation. It reflects the strength of partnerships between Africa and our friends around the world, partnerships built on mutual respect, shared prosperity, and a common commitment to sustainable development,” he added.

President Mahama also used the occasion to call for stronger investment and cooperation in Africa’s energy sector to expand access to clean energy and stimulate economic growth.
“May the LPG vessel MT Asharami Ghana stand as a symbol of progress, one that inspires further investment, innovation, and collaboration across Africa’s energy value chain,” he stated.

The commissioning of the vessel is expected to enhance the reliability of LPG transportation and contribute to improved energy access for households and industries in Ghana and the broader West African region.
