The National Identification Authority (NIA) has started registering Ghanaian children between the ages of 6 and 14 at all Premium Centres nationwide.

The Authority said the exercise is part of its mandate to capture every Ghanaian in the National Identity Register from an early age.

First-time registration at Premium Centres costs GHS 310, the same as adults.

Parents or guardians must present either a valid Ghanaian passport, an original birth certificate, or be Ghana Card holders who can vouch for the child.

From September 15, the NIA will expand its online booking system to cover all Premium Centres, while district offices across the country will also begin offering the service in the coming weeks.

The NIA assured that details on card issuance for children already registered will be announced soon and encouraged families to use the online system to ease processing.
