Two Nigerian nationals have been sentenced to prison for attempting to fraudulently obtain Ghana Cards using forged documents.
The Madina District Court II convicted Isaac Ike, also known as Alex Kwesi Brown Appiah, 20, and Emmanuel Innocent Egbe, also known as Innocent Emmanuel Kodom, 24, on charges of providing false information to National Identification Authority (NIA) officials and possessing forged documents.
Presiding Judge Susana Nyakotey sentenced both men to 12 months for providing false information and 13 months for possessing forged documents, with the terms to run concurrently. They will be deported to Nigeria after completing their sentences and have been handed over to the Nsawam Prisons Authority to begin serving time.
In a statement, the NIA praised the Ghana Police Service, its CID Unit, and the Office of the Attorney-General for helping secure the convictions.
The NIA warned that impersonation, providing false information, and using forged documents are serious crimes and pledged continued collaboration with security and judicial agencies to detect and prosecute offenders.
The Authority emphasized that the Ghana Card remains essential for government services, financial transactions, and national security.
