Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has died, according to sources.
He passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, after a prolonged illness.
His death comes not long after the passing of his longtime backing vocalist, Maame Tiwaa, who died on December 7, 2025.
At the time, the family had reportedly not informed Yaw Sarpong of her death to protect his fragile health.
Yaw Sarpong was widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential gospel musicians, leading the acclaimed group Asomafo and leaving behind a legacy of timeless gospel music that has inspired generations.
Meanwhile, official confirmation from the family is still pending.
