The Ghana Police Service says it is working hand in hand with neighboring Nigerian authorities to enable the smooth arrival of two victims and suspects involved in the recent kidnapping case back to Ghana.
Lastweek, the Police Service together with the National Signals Bureau and the Nigeria Police Force rescued the two female victims captured in a viral video after they were kidnapped. The video which saw one of the ladies half naked and in distress sparked widespread public concern
Subsequently, eight suspects were arrested in connection with the kidnap. The arrests were made in both Ghana and Nigeria.
Speaking to the media in Accra on Tuesday May 7, Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, said efforts were underway to ensure both the victims and suspects are safely transported.
“As of today, both suspects and victims are with the Nigerian authorities, and efforts are being made to transport the victims to Ghana and also extradite the suspects to Ghana to assist investigations,” she stated.
DCOP Donkor also revealed that the families of the victims had paid a total of GHS18,000 to various phone numbers as part of ransom demands.
However, she assured the public that the victims are currently in stable condition after routine medical checks.
