Some branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency have shut down the party’s office in Kasoa following the suspension of Constituency Chairman Stephen Ofosu Agyare.
The aggrieved executives locked the office on Thursday and handed the keys to the Zongo Ward leadership, declaring that the facility would not be reopened until the party’s national leadership rescinds the decision.
The action comes amid growing opposition within the constituency to the suspension of Mr. Ofosu Agyare, which is linked to concerns over his relationship with Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
The protesters contend that the decision against the constituency chairman was unfair and taken without adequate consultation or due process.
Their protest intensified after they allegedly received information that the constituency Vice Chairman was due to take over as Acting Chairman.
The branch executives said they would not recognise any attempt to replace Mr. Ofosu Agyare while the dispute over his suspension remains unresolved.
They subsequently moved to the constituency office, secured the premises and removed the keys, effectively halting activities at the facility.
The executives are demanding an immediate reversal of the suspension and have warned the NDC’s national leadership that allowing the decision to stand risks worsening internal divisions in the constituency.
They also threatened to escalate their protest and make the constituency “ungovernable” for party activities if their demand for Mr. Ofosu Agyare’s reinstatement is ignored.
