The Ministry for the Interior has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, as a statutory public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Adha, one of the most significant celebrations on the Islamic calendar.
In a statement dated Thursday, May 29, and signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the public was urged to observe the day as a holiday across the country in accordance with the Public Holidays Act.
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 6th June 2005, marks Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement read.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
The festival coincides with the conclusion of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and a central pillar of Islam.
It is observed on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar.
The Interior Ministry also advised the public to mark the day peacefully and in line with public health and safety regulations.
