Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has urged the nation to honour the memory of the eight high-ranking officials who perished in last week’s military helicopter crash.
In an interview with TV3 on Monday, August 11, Mr. Tameklo described the victims as patriots who died serving their country and said their sacrifices must be immortalised.
“The Republic should find a way to immortalise their memories… They died in the line of duty,” he said, adding that the lessons from the tragedy will remain with the nation for years to come.
The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claiming the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong.
The rest were former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The incident has cast a deep shadow over the country, with many calling for a lasting tribute to the men described as heroes who gave their lives in the service of Ghana.
