The Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of eight prominent Ghanaians who died in the August 6 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
The tragic accident claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed; Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Sarpong; and former parliamentary candidate, Mr. Samuel Aboagye.
Also among the deceased were three members of the Ghana Armed Forces — Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
In a statement, Dr. Agyepong called the incident “a heartbreaking loss — to their families, to the Government, and to the Nation they served with honour and distinction,” noting that “Ghana has lost true patriots.”
“On behalf of the entire Jospong Group, I extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May their souls find perfect peace,” Dr. Agyepong stated.
The fatal crash has cast a pall over the nation, with condolences and tributes flooding in from leaders in politics, the military, and the business community.
Meanwhile, two of the victims who were Muslims have already been buried on Sunday, August 10 at the Military Cemetery.
