The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has officially moved the implementation of the GH¢1 fuel levy by one week, thus June 16, following strong opposition from industry stakeholders.
The levy, part of the recently passed Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), was initially expected to take effect today, June 9, 2025.
However, after consultations between the government and the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), the new date for enforcement has been set for Monday, June 16, 2025.
The GH¢1 charge per litre on petrol and diesel is aimed at supporting debt repayment and addressing financial shortfalls in the energy sector.
Yet, its abrupt rollout sparked dissatisfaction among industry players, especially COMAC, which cited the lack of prior engagement.
COMAC, in a statement acknowleged the outcome of meetings held with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the Ministry of Finance, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), and the GRA.
COMAC Coordinator, Dr. Riverson Oppong expressed the chamber’s approval of the revised timeline, adding that the new date reflects a more collaborative approach.
