The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has donated assorted food items and cash to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, in support of the Muslim community during the holy month of Ramadan.

The items presented included 100 bags of rice, 20 cartons of cooking oil, 20 cartons of mackerel, 30 cartons of bottled water, and a cash donation of GH¢20,000.

Presenting the items on Tuesday, March 17, Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, said the gesture forms part of the Authority’s commitment to supporting communities, especially during significant religious periods.

“So today, this afternoon, the management of GRA is here to visit the Chief Imam and the community. As you all know, we are in the month of Ramadan, which is a holy period, which we are called to dedicate ourselves to the service of God and mankind. And GRA, we say Ghana first, we serve the nation, we raise revenue for national development,” he said.

He noted that the spirit of Ramadan aligns with the Authority’s values of service and compassion, adding that the donation is intended to support Muslims observing the fast.

“So what we do actually coincides with a period of fasting with our Muslim brothers and sisters. And in this period, we are also called to show kindness. So today we are here, we came with a few food items and a cash donation through the holy hands of the Chief Imam that will reach out to our brothers and sisters who are fasting this period to support them,” he added.

Mr. Sarpong also appealed to the Chief Imam to offer prayers for the nation and leadership.

“And especially as the season draws to a close, we ask for his prayers on the nation, on the President, on our management, and on the board, that the entire GRA be blessed so that the work that the President has given to us, we can deliver effectively, raise the necessary revenue, so that we can support the agenda of His Excellency, the President John Dramani Mahama,” he said.

He further emphasised that the gesture was aimed at promoting peace and national development.

“In short, we are here to support our brothers and sisters through the Chief Imam, so that the holy month of Ramadan will be well celebrated, will be a reflection for all of us, and to build together peace and prosperity for national development,” he stated.

Receiving the donation, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu expressed appreciation to the GRA and the government for the support, and prayed for continued peace and stability in the country.

The donation forms part of efforts by state institutions to support Muslim communities during Ramadan and promote unity and social cohesion.
