The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, says the government is actively working to absorb the growing number of unemployed health professionals in the country.
Delivering an update at the Government Accountability Series on Friday, July 18, the minister described the situation as urgent, disclosing that more than 70,000 trained health workers are currently awaiting recruitment.
“We recognise the challenge of over 70,000 qualified health workers currently awaiting employment, but I want to assure you that we are working tirelessly to clear this backlog,” he stated.
Mr. Akandoh revealed that in just the past six months, the Ministry had completed recruitment processes for over 10,000 nurses and midwives as part of efforts to clear the backlog.
He assured the public that this is only the beginning, with additional batches of health professionals set to be employed in the coming months.
“In the past six months alone, we have successfully finalised the employment process of over 10,000 nurses and midwives, with many more to come,” the minister emphasized.
