Health Minister Mintah Akandoh has unveiled plans to expand Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure in 2026, including the construction of three new regional hospitals and the retooling of primary health facilities.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, December 1, the Minister confirmed that construction of the hospitals will begin next year in the Savannah, Oti, and Western North regions, with a budget allocation of 600 million Ghana cedis.
“His Excellency promised the good people of this country that he was going to construct six regional hospitals in regions where there are none. Fortunately enough, in 2026 budget, we are going to begin the construction of three regional hospitals, namely the Savannah region, the Oti region, and the Western North region.”
Mr. Akandoh also emphasized efforts to improve service delivery at the primary level, addressing equipment shortages across health facilities.
“We are going to retool our primary health facilities to have the basic equipment to be able to deliver, to give real meaning to free primary health care.”
These measures form part of the government’s broader commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare under the 2026 budget.
