Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has clarified widespread confusion regarding the difference between ammunition and weapons, following public discourse after the latest Government Accountability Series.
In a Facebook post on Monday, July 21, 2025, Dr. Boamah addressed the issue, revealing that thousands of rounds of military ammunition were irregularly transferred from the Ghana Armed Forces to the National Security outfit in 2024, during the tenure of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
He emphasized that these ammunitions remain unaccounted for and assured the public that the current government, under President John Dramani Mahama, is fully committed to investigating the matter and ensuring accountability.
Dr. Boamah wrote, “Once again, ammunition not the same as weapon. Some are confusing the two. Please don’t confuse the two. Again, the unaccounted for ammunitions were transferred from the Ghana Armed Forces to the National Security in 2024 under the NPP administration. It’s the National Security outfit under President John Dramani Mahama that is investigating the matter.”
