The government has announced a new cocoa producer price of GHS3,625 per bag (GHS58,000 per tonne), representing an increase of about GHS400 per bag or 12.27% over the price announced in August.
The increment, which takes effect on Friday, October 3, 2025, is aimed at boosting farmer incomes while maintaining Ghana’s competitiveness in the global cocoa market.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who announced the adjustment after engagements with the Producer Price Committee of Cocoa, explained that the decision was informed by recent economic changes and projections.
“A lot goes into forecasting, some market sensitive. But I want to say that the same forecast we used in arriving at the initial price, we’ve seen some changes. And as we’ve said, we’ve come back to present factors that reflect the need for us to increase the cocoa price by 400 Ghana cedis,” Dr. Forson said.
The Minister stressed that margins, fees, and rates for all other stakeholders remain unchanged.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has assured farmers that it will intensify support programs to boost production and farmer welfare.
These include the supply of free cocoa fertilizers (liquid and granular), insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides, and flower inducers.
Additionally, the Minister added that COCOBOD is on track to roll out the new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers beginning in the 2026/27 academic year.
