The Ministry of the Interior has announced a curfew for Nalerigu Township and surrounding areas in the North East Region, effective Thursday, December 18, 2025. The curfew will be enforced daily from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am until further notice.
The measure, issued on the advice of the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument, comes as part of efforts to restore peace and prevent violence in the area.
“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument has imposed Curfew on Nalerigu Township and its environs in the North East Region from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am, effective Thursday, December 18, 2025,” the statement said.
Government has called on local chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to exercise restraint and channel their energies into peaceful conflict resolution.
Authorities have also imposed a strict ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in the township. The statement warned that anyone found in possession of such items will face arrest and prosecution.
The move aims to maintain public safety and prevent further unrest in the North East Region.
