Ghana and The Bahamas have entered into a new partnership to boost labour mobility through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see Ghanaian teachers and nurses recruited to work in the Caribbean nation.
The agreement, signed by Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives, Emmanuel Agyekum, alongside Nelson Ndebah Ndebugre from the Office of the President, represents a major step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
During his official visit, Mr. Agyekum held discussions with Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Edward “Brave” Davis, where both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening ties through skills exchange and human capital development.
Under the first phase of the partnership, experienced Ghanaian educators and healthcare professionals will be deployed to The Bahamas to fill key roles in education and health services.
The move is expected to create international job opportunities for Ghanaians while helping The Bahamas address its workforce needs in critical sectors.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on October 22, Minister Agyekum described the agreement as a “win-win” for both nations, adding that it reflects growing global confidence in the professionalism and dedication of Ghanaian workers.
“This initiative not only creates opportunities for Ghanaian teachers and nurses to contribute globally but also strengthens the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Ghana and The Bahamas,” he said.
He assured that the welfare and safety of all participants will remain a top priority, emphasizing that recruitment will be transparent and coordinated with relevant Ghanaian and Bahamian authorities.
According to the Ministry, the broader framework of the MoU extends beyond labour mobility, paving the way for future cooperation in commerce, culture, tourism, and human capital development.
“This historic agreement further solidifies Ghana’s growing leadership in exporting expertise and bears testament to the faith that the international community continues to place in the skills and professionalism of Ghanaians,” the Ministry’s statement noted.
The Ministry also described the partnership as a reflection of Ghana’s long-term vision of promoting skills export and strengthening its international presence through mutually beneficial cooperation.

“This ceremony marks the dawn of a prosperous future; one that aligns with Ghana’s vision of promoting labour mobility, skills export, and international partnerships that benefit our citizens and strengthen our global presence,” the statement added.
Minister Agyekum expressed gratitude to the Government and people of The Bahamas for their support, describing the collaboration as “a bridge of opportunity between our people, cultures, and shared aspirations.”
