The Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is probing claims by American citizen Arianna Naomi Mackey, who shared a viral video alleging she was kidnapped and robbed by masked men she said were police officers on snap-check duty in Accra.
Preliminary checks reveal Mackey and two companions left their hotel and departed Ghana on December 5.
According to the Police, when contacted by police, she could not provide names of the alleged officers or vehicle details and later blocked investigators after deleting the video.
Her companion in Ghana reportedly declined to be involved in the investigation.
Police say efforts are ongoing to secure her cooperation through diplomatic channels. Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo emphasized that the service “treats such allegations very seriously” and is committed to uncovering the facts.
