The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has announced it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure the arrest of the dismissed Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School, following allegations of sexual misconduct with a student.
The suspect, Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo, was relieved of his post on September 29 by the Ghana Education Service (GES) after a video surfaced online allegedly showing him in a compromising situation with a female student.
GES, in its statement, described the matter as “one of utmost seriousness” and barred him from returning to the school pending investigations.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, October 1, the Minister of Gender, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, confirmed that her Ministry had taken up the case with the police.
“We have lots of reports on gender-based violence and child abuse, and because of the position of the Ministry, we are able to collaborate with the police anytime such issues come up,” she explained. “Of recent is the report…of the 13-year-old with the assistant headmaster. So even though GES dismissed the head, we are collaborating with the police to effect the arrest of the man, the perpetrator.”
She stressed that growing awareness of abuse has empowered communities to act.
The Gender Ministry has assured the public that justice will be pursued, while urging vigilance in reporting all forms of abuse against children.
