Four officials of a microfinance company have been arrested by police in connection with an alleged assault incident at Ashongman Estate in Accra.
The arrests were made by the Ghana Police Service through the Kwabenya District Police Command as part of investigations into the incident.
According to a press release issued by the Accra Regional Police Command, the suspects are believed to be officials of Bill’s Microfinance who allegedly assaulted a woman while demanding repayment of a loan.
Police said the victim, identified as 42-year-old Hagar Emaser, reported the incident on March 13, 2026.
“On 13th March 2026, Madam Hagar Emaser, aged 42, reported to the Police that four men, officials from Bills microfinance company from which she had obtained a loan facility, visited her residence to demand repayment and allegedly assaulted her during the process.”
Following the complaint, the police moved swiftly and arrested the suspects the next day.
“On 14th March 2026, suspects, identified as Denis Wornyo, aged 38; Albert Amarh, aged 40; Ebenezer Amartei, aged 23; and Atsu Lawson, aged 27, were arrested by the Police.”
Police said caution statements have already been taken from the four men as investigations continue.
“Investigation caution statements have been obtained from all four suspects. The suspects are currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations.”
The Accra Regional Police Command has also urged victims of assault and other crimes to report such incidents promptly to aid investigations.
“The Command advises persons with grievances relating to loan transactions or other civil matters to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolution.”
