In a move to honor the six young women who tragically lost their lives at the El-Wak Sports Stadium recruitment exercise, the Ministry of Defence has announced that family members of each victim will be given the opportunity to join the Ghana Armed Forces.
Brogya Genfi, Deputy Defence Minister, stated that the gesture is intended to commemorate the lives of the applicants who had come with hopes of serving their country. He described the measure as “a way to ensure that the dedication and dreams of the deceased live on through their families.”
The El-Wak recruitment exercise, held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, ended in tragedy when a surge of recruits at the gates caused a stampede, leaving six dead and 28 others injured. Twelve of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, with five admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the 37 Military Hospital.
The Ghana Armed Forces have temporarily suspended the Greater Accra recruitment exercise as they review safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Ministry of Defence’s commitment to offering recruitment slots to the victims’ families comes as part of this broader effort to support those affected and ensure the legacy of the deceased is honored.
