Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has announced a landmark recovery of virtual assets by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), retrieving $15.19 million from a multinational criminal network.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Dr. Ayine described the operation as “complex and at the same time groundbreaking.”
He explained, “On November 19, 2025, Zodiac Custody successfully converted the said crypto assets of the criminal enterprise and paid same to EOCO’s exhibit account in the amount of $15,191,730.13.”
He commended the efforts of EOCO and international partners, adding, “The Economic and Organised Crime Office and my office would like to extend our utmost gratitude to Ghana’s judiciary for their pioneering role in studying and guiding us through the complex case.”
Dr. Ayine emphasized the broader significance of the case, stating, “This case should therefore serve as a clear warning that EOCO has developed the capability to investigate and recover virtual assets such as cryptocurrency and that no foreign jurisdiction is too far from the long arm of Ghanaian law enforcement.”
