The Electoral Commission of Ghana has formally invited political parties to an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting ahead of the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election.
In a letter addressed to party General Secretaries and signed by Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairman of Corporate Services, on behalf of the EC Chairperson, parties were informed that the meeting will take place on Wednesday, 11th February 2026, at 11:00 am at the EC’s Corporate Head Office.
The letter states, “Each Political Party is to be represented by two (2) persons only.”
The IPAC meeting is intended to allow political parties to engage with the EC on preparations for the by-election, including polling arrangements, compliance measures, and other key processes necessary to ensure a transparent and orderly election.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has officially scheduled the Ayawaso East by-election for Tuesday, 3rd March 2026. The by-election follows the demise of the sitting NDC Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, who passed away after a short illness at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Toure had been serving his fourth term in Parliament and held key positions, including Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee and membership of the Roads and Transport, House, and Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committees.
The EC noted that the upcoming IPAC meeting would provide a platform for parties to discuss these and other issues in preparation for the March 3 by-election, aiming to ensure a smooth, credible, and participatory process.
