The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested a man in connection with the tragic shooting of a 60-year-old woman, Juan Ama, during a funeral at Okra Kwadwo in the Akuapem area.
The suspect, identified as Daniel Yeboah, was reportedly part of the entourage accompanying the Chief of Amanokrom when the incident occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
According to police, Yeboah allegedly fired a gun as part of customary displays during the chief’s greeting session, but the bullet struck the woman, causing fatal injuries.
The victim was rushed to a nearby health facility but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A team from the Regional Police Operations Unit, led by Eastern Regional Crime Officer Superintendent Nkum, responded swiftly to the scene and arrested the suspect, who is currently assisting with investigations.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The Eastern Regional Police PRO, Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh, has cautioned the public to handle firearms responsibly, particularly at crowded social events such as funerals and festivals.
