The Police in the Eastern Region have arrested Coffie Agyemang, a resident of Kwamang in the Denkyembour District, for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son for GH¢1 million.
According to reports, the suspect confided in a friend about his plan, citing severe financial difficulties. The friend alerted authorities, prompting the police to set up a covert operation.
Officers posed as buyers and arrested Agyemang when he brought the child to a prearranged meeting point.
Investigations also suggest the suspect may have intended to use the child for ritual purposes, claims which are currently being probed.
DSP David Fianko Okyere, Public Relations Officer for the Eastern South Police Command, confirmed the arrest and said the child has been placed in protective custody.
Authorities praised the community’s vigilance and emphasized the importance of timely reporting in preventing potential harm to vulnerable children.
