The Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Randy Abbey on his appointment as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
In a press statement issued on Sunday, January 26, 2025, the Association expressed optimism about Mr. Abbey’s ability to bring significant improvements to the lives of Ghanaian cocoa farmers. As one of the most prominent stakeholders in the cocoa industry, the Association assured him of their support and willingness to collaborate to tackle the many challenges facing farmers across the country.
The President of the Association, Farmer General Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu, highlighted key areas that require immediate attention under Mr. Abbey’s leadership. These include:
1. Ensuring fair pricing for cocoa beans so that farmers can enjoy equitable returns for their hard work.
2. Improving access to quality farming inputs and tools to boost productivity.
3. Enhancing extension services and training programs to strengthen farmers’ capacities.
4. Prioritizing farmer welfare by improving livelihoods and making cocoa farming more sustainable.
Farmer General Bonsu emphasized that these issues have been persistent challenges for the industry, and called on the new Acting CEO to make their resolution a priority.
“We are confident that under Mr. Abbey’s leadership, the welfare of cocoa farmers will be at the forefront of COCOBOD’s agenda,” he stated. “We look forward to working closely with him to secure a brighter future for all cocoa farmers in Ghana.”
The Association assured Mr. Abbey of their full cooperation in driving sustainable solutions for the sector and wished him success in his new role.
COCOBOD is a vital institution in Ghana, managing one of the country’s most important export commodities. Stakeholders across the industry are looking forward to Mr. Abbey’s leadership in addressing both longstanding and emerging challenges.
