Commercial transport operators have commended President John Dramani Mahama and his government for reviving the stalled Ofankor–Nsawam highway project, saying the progress made so far has already eased their daily struggles on the busy corridor.
The Ofankor–Nsawam project, which began in July 2022 under the Akufo-Addo administration, has suffered repeated delays, including a four-month suspension earlier this year over funding concerns.
Originally scheduled for completion in July 2024, the deadline has since been extended multiple times, frustrating commuters who endure daily gridlock.
According to the operators, persistent traffic jams and deteriorating road conditions had long frustrated both drivers and passengers, increasing costs and reducing productivity.
They expressed satisfaction that government has not only brought the contractor back on site but has also demonstrated seriousness in seeing the project through.
“Specifically, we want to acknowledge the efforts made in bringing the contractor on board for the Ofankor-Nsawam road project. The progress made so far has significantly improved the condition of road,” the operators noted, stressing that the improvement has made it easier to carry out their work.
They described the project as a lifeline for their trade and a sign of renewed government commitment to addressing transport challenges.
President Mahama, who inspected the site on Wednesday with Roads Minister Governs Agbodza, directed Maripoma Enterprise Limited, the contractor, to ensure durable work and timely completion.
He assured that government will meet its financial obligations, but insisted contractors must match that with speed and quality.
They urged government to sustain its focus on the road sector, arguing that improved infrastructure directly translates into safer, faster and more efficient transport services for Ghanaians.
