The Managing Director of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), Dr. Wisdom Kofi Dogbey, has toured several cocoa Takeover Centres to evaluate operational performance for the current crop season and assess the company’s preparedness for a full-scale 24-hour operating model.
The visit forms part of efforts to boost efficiency within the cocoa value chain, in line with President John Mahama’s directive for key state institutions and economic sectors to transition to 24-hour operations.
During the tour, Dr. Dogbey interacted with staff responsible for handling and safeguarding Ghana’s premium cocoa.
These engagements offered direct insights into the challenges and achievements on the ground and underscored the importance of teamwork in maintaining high operational standards.
“This visit was crucial for understanding our operational performance and identifying areas for improvement,” he said. “I was truly inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by our team members, who share a passion for elevating Ghana’s cocoa industry.”
Dr. Dogbey reaffirmed that CMC is ready to implement the 24-hour operating model, which he believes will transform warehouse, port, and shipping operations.
He noted that the shift is expected to cut turnaround times, improve service delivery, and strengthen Ghana’s position in the global cocoa market.
Outlining the benefits, he said, “This model will improve the handling and storage of cocoa, ensuring that our beans maintain their quality and integrity. It will also allow for better inventory management, reducing wastage and losses during peak seasons. By increasing our operational capacity, we can respond more swiftly to market demands and enhance our competitiveness on the global stage.”
He added that the initiative also supports cocoa farmers by improving system efficiencies, enabling Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) to offer timely payments and support—thereby enhancing farmer livelihoods and strengthening the sustainability of the cocoa sector.
Reflecting on the broader industry outlook, Dr. Dogbey said he remains optimistic. “With initiatives like the 24-hour operating model and ongoing initiatives to improve local processing of cocoa beans, we are poised to meet the growing global demand for cocoa and position Ghana as a leader in the cocoa industry.”
He assured stakeholders of CMC’s commitment to collaborative growth, noting, “Together, we can create a brighter future for the industry, ensuring that Ghanaian cocoa continues to be recognized for its exceptional quality and value.”
The visit, according to CMC, demonstrates its proactive efforts to deepen operational excellence and embrace emerging opportunities within Ghana’s cocoa landscape.
