The Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has waded into the growing tension at the CMB Abuja enclave in Accra, condemning what she described as an unlawful attempt by a private developer to seize state land and eject traders and drivers.
The standoff has left hundreds of traders displaced onto the streets, worsening congestion and raising safety concerns in the bustling commercial hub.
Traders and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) have petitioned the presidency, insisting the land belongs to the state and should not be handed over to private hands.
Addressing journalists in Parliament, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings called for urgent clarity from government on the true ownership and future of the land.
“What I would like to do is unequivocally condemn what is happening in this enclave, because it is very clear that this land is state land and should not be taken over by private individuals, especially when we are not sure who is giving the permission,” she said.
She further urged the Minister of Transport to “come out and give clear guidance” since the enclave falls under the Railways Development sector.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings also demanded an investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), warning that the takeover threatens livelihoods in a vital part of Accra’s informal economy.
“A huge part of our informal sector is situated in the CMB Abuja Market Enclave,” she stressed, adding that government intervention is necessary to restore calm.
