The Bono Regional Police Command has restored calm at Sampa in the Jaman North District following a violent confrontation between two rival factions, Sammordua and Samgba Gyafla, which erupted at the town’s main market on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
The clash, which escalated into heavy gunfire, led to the burning of several shops and left multiple police officers injured as security personnel intervened to control the situation.
In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, police received a distress call reporting the gunfire and immediately deployed a team to the scene.
The officers were also tasked with escorting a Ghana National Fire Service tender and an ambulance transporting a pregnant woman to the hospital.
However, the police team came under direct fire from the armed factions during the operation. The service vehicle, with registration number GP 686, reportedly veered into a ditch amid the crossfire.
Eight officers sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to the Sampa Government Hospital.
Seven were treated and discharged, while one officer with a severe head injury was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further care.
Police have since increased patrols in the Sampa township, assuring residents that calm has been restored and that efforts are underway to apprehend all individuals involved in the violent disturbance.
The Command also appealed to the public to provide information that could assist in the arrest of the perpetrators.
