Accra Circuit Court has granted blogger Samuel Amadotor of Dklassgh.net bail of GH¢50,000 with two sureties after he was charged with allegedly publishing false information about former National Communications Authority (NCA) Board Chair Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio I.
Presiding Judge Evelyn Asamoah read two charges against Amadotor: publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic, under Section 208(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, and publication of false news under Section 123 of the Electronic Transactions Act. Amadotor pleaded not guilty to both counts.
Amadotor’s lawyer, Jerry Avenorgbo, welcomed the ruling, saying, “We are grateful to the court for granting bail. This allows my client to prepare for trial while respecting his rights.”
The blogger was arrested after Mr. Ababio filed a complaint with the police, who said Amadotor admitted posting the content and claimed he was contracted by one Chairman Michael Yeboah.
Efforts are ongoing to locate Yeboah for further investigation.
