Government is set to announce its official position on the Bawku mediation report within 24 hours, following the submission of the final report by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday.
President Mahama described the report’s presentation at the Presidency as a critical milestone and assured that the recommendations would be acted upon swiftly.
“I can assure him that government will look at this report and within the next 24 hours government will issue a statement on its definitive position,” he said.
The President emphasized that the next phase focuses on reconciliation, urging both the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities to rebuild trust and work toward lasting peace.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was appointed earlier this year to mediate the conflict, clarified that the process was strictly a mediation, not an arbitration, and that all parties had voluntarily participated and should respect the outcomes.
The mediation, which began in April and resumed in May after a brief pause, has contributed to a period of relative calm in Bawku.
President Mahama thanked the Asantehene for his leadership and noted that the forthcoming government statement will outline concrete steps to support reconciliation and prevent renewed violence.
