President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to provide armed escort and protection for vehicles operating within the Bawku enclave, in a decisive move to address the escalating security crisis in the area.
The directive follows a series of violent incidents in Bawku, where civilians have been attacked and lives lost, prompting renewed national concern.
“Peace is not negotiable. As commander-in-chief, I have instructed the Armed Forces to provide armed escort and protection to all vehicles travelling within the Bawku area. And also along the Walewale-Bolgatanga corridor,” he said.
President Mahama announced during a stop in the North East Region as part of his nationwide “Thank You Tour” on Friday, June 13.
He emphasized the urgent need for heightened military presence to restore peace and ensure the safety of residents and travelers in the area.
President Mahama is expected to continue his regional tour in the Savannah Region on Saturday, June 14, with a scheduled stop at 2 p.m.
