Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, has appeared before the party’s investigative committee to respond to allegations of vote buying during the recent primaries held on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
In a statement dated Monday, February 9, 2026, Baba Jamal maintained his innocence, stressing that he did not attempt to influence voters during the primaries.
Baba Jamal also highlighted his growing support within the constituency, noting his previous attempts to contest the seat and the trust delegates have placed in him.
“My growing popularity among our cherished party supporters in the constituency is a result of the initiatives I have undertaken, my integrity, and our shared commitment to securing better representation for Ayawaso East in Parliament,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the NDC’s three-member investigative committee, initially chaired by Kofi Totobi Quakyi alongside Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga and lawyer Emefa Fugah, is set to submit its report on the allegations today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
Ayariga later recused himself and was replaced by former MP Inusah Fuseini following calls from the NDC Majority Caucus for the annulment of the primary.
Baba Jamal concluded his statement by expressing gratitude to both the committee and party delegates, reiterating his commitment to driving development in the constituency.
“I remain driven by our collective desire to bring meaningful development to the constituency and improve the lives of our people,” he said.
The report from the committee is expected to clarify the allegations and recommend any necessary actions or sanctions.
