The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched investigations into a case of suspected malpractice at the Armed Forces Senior High Technical School in Accra after seizing the mobile phone of an invigilator.
The incident occurred during the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) when WAEC’s monitoring team, led by its Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, paid a surprise visit to the centre.
The invigilator, identified as Bright Amoah, a Visual Arts tutor at the school, was found with a mobile phone containing solved questions from previous WASSCE papers, including Oral English and Picture Making.
Although those papers had already been written, WAEC suspects possible irregularities and has taken possession of the device for further scrutiny.
The Examination Centre Supervisor has also been directed to file an official report on why an invigilator carried a phone into the examination hall, a clear violation of the Council’s regulations.
WAEC says the move is part of heightened measures to curb examination malpractice this year, as over 450,000 candidates across Ghana sit for the 2025 WASSCE.
Surveillance has been intensified nationwide following growing concerns about leaks and misconduct.
