New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Akuapem North constituency in the Eastern Region, Sammi Awuku, has stated that his constituency is a no-go area for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 7 December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Sammi Awuku who is currently the director general of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) in his address to participants of the “Offie Walk” on Saturday, 3 August 2024, said the entire Akuapem North constituency is committed to the vision of the NPP for Ghana and the NDC its candidate, have no place in the constituency.
“NPP will win this election with strategy and the NDC will not understand. The election ahead of us is about Ghana’s future and Ghana’s past. I want to tell the NDC that we will be intimidated, the election will be free and fair and the NPP will cleanly win the election,” Sammi Awuku said to the crowd.
*”Akonfem era”*
At the Akuapem North constituency, the NPP leader Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, joined the party’s parliamentary candidate, Sammi Awuku for what Dr Bawumia called “an invigorating experience” dubbed, “Offie Walk.”
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in his remarks to the huge crowd after the walk jabbed John Dramani Mahama, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), labeling Mahama’s erstwhile administration as the ‘Akonfem’ era.
*Going digital*
Dr Bawumia pointed out that Ghana is moving into a digital age, and not going back to the “Akonfem” era. He highlighted the benefits of digitalisation, noting that it would make passport applications a seamless process. Dr Bawumia also took a jab at Mahama, suggesting that Mahama would only serve a single term and therefore wouldn’t be accountable to Ghanaians.
“From the customs office, we will introduce the flat rate of duty and digit-ability to prevent corruption at the port for the development of the country. We are bringing more initiatives on board as we launch our manifesto in a few weeks to come. Because of digitalization, passport application is going to be a thing of the past.
“If you have your card, you don’t have to apply and fill out a form for a passport. We have all your details, so you’ll just pay the fee, and then we print your passport for you. This initiative will help the country to move into digitalisation,” Dr Bawumia said.
“Ghana is going into the digitalisation age, not back to the ‘Akonfem ‘age. Vote for me so that we can also learn from the Europeans to develop our nation. We are bringing new policies. Do you think their flagbearer can be a president for just four years? He’s also seeking for honeymoon, meaning he won’t do anything.
“However, I want to be President for eight years meaning I’ll come back to make accountability after my first term. He [Mahama] won’t come back to make accountability Ghana needs a new president with new ideas with integrity” the Vice President and presidential candidate of the NPP added.
