Security operations have intensified in Assin Wurakese following the violent attack on a patient at the Akoti Health Centre, with police taking 100 residents into custody as part of an ongoing investigation.
The Central North Regional Police Command says the arrests were carried out after intelligence pointed to widespread community involvement in the incident.
Officers moved into the area in a coordinated operation, rounding up suspects believed to have played varying roles — from direct participation to providing support before and after the attack.
Addressing the media, Regional Police Commander DCOP Abraham Acquaye said the suspects are being screened to determine individual responsibility. Those found to have aided the assault, failed to stop it, or concealed suspects will face prosecution, while others will be released once cleared.
He confirmed that the mass arrest follows earlier developments in the case, including the detention and remand of a community police officer and Yaw Buabeng, who are expected to reappear in court on February 5, 2026.
Another suspect, Daniel Ababio, was later arrested after appearing in a viral video allegedly attacking a victim with scissors at the health centre.
DCOP Acquaye cautioned residents against standing by to film acts of violence, warning that such conduct is unlawful and could attract sanctions.
He stressed that the police will pursue the case to its conclusion, adding that no individual or group will be shielded from the law, regardless of status or influence.
