Isaac Adonteng, a 54-year-old mason, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in connection with the death of his 13-year-old daughter, Celestine Adonteng, in Kokrobite.
The arrest follows widespread public outrage after a video circulated on social media, prompting Ghanaians to demand justice for the young victim.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations reveal that the girl was allegedly assaulted with a cane, a metal pipe, and other objects after being accused of taking food belonging to her younger sibling.
Despite her injuries, the father reportedly did not seek medical care, leaving her confined at home. She was found unconscious by police responding to a complaint and was rushed to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Exhibits recovered from the scene include a cutlass and a metal pipe believed to have been used in the assault.
The police have strongly cautioned parents and guardians against using excessive force when disciplining children.
Authorities also called on the public to report all forms of child abuse and domestic violence to ensure swift intervention and protection of victims.
