Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, is scheduled to reappear before the Accra Circuit Court on Friday, September 19, 2025, after being denied bail and remanded once more into custody.
The court, presided over in Accra, ruled that the remand was necessary to allow prosecutors additional time to advance their investigations into the case.
Abronye is facing two provisional charges of “publication of false news” and “offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace.”
He was first arrested on Monday, September 8, 2025, and has since been held in custody.
His detention has sparked public debate, especially after it emerged that he was being kept at the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) cells instead of police custody, contrary to the initial court order.
When he appeared in court on Friday, Abronye was transported under heavy security in a Black Maria vehicle.
The proceedings attracted a large crowd of NPP supporters and senior party officials, including Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, National Youth Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, and former National Chairman Freddie Blay, who gathered to show solidarity.
The NPP has Abronye’s continuous detention, describing it as an abuse of his rights and alleging political bias in the handling of the case.
The Accra Circuit Court has directed that Abronye remain in custody until September 19, when he is expected to reappear as investigations continue.
