The Health Facilities and Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has shut down the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Clinic and nine other health facilities in the Ashanti Region for operating without valid licences and proper documentation.
The closure, carried out on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, forms part of a regional enforcement exercise launched by HeFRA to ensure that all medical facilities operate in line with national regulatory standards.
According to officials, preliminary inspections revealed that the KMA Clinic had been running for several years without a valid operating licence—a major breach of the Health Institutions and Facilities Act. Several other clinics in the region were also found to be functioning without authorization, posing potential health and safety risks to patients.
So far, 18 health facilities have been closed in the Ashanti Region since the start of the crackdown, which began on Monday, October 13. The exercise is expected to continue in the coming days as regulators move to verify the status of all health institutions in the region.
HeFRA has urged members of the public to seek medical care only from certified facilities and advised unlicensed operators to regularize their status immediately to avoid further sanctions.
