Three 18-year-olds have each been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Atasemanso Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region for their involvement in a violent daylight robbery at Buobai, a suburb of the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The convicts—Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari—were arrested on July 1, 2025, during a targeted police operation at a hideout in Aboabo. Their arrest followed swift action by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, supported by vigilant community members.
According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, July 9, the trio and three other accomplices—who are currently on the run—attacked residents of Buobai between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1.
Armed with machetes and riding two unregistered motorbikes, they reportedly robbed victims of mobile phones, cash, and bags.
Community volunteers played a key role in tracking down the suspects later that day. They were handed over to the police along with ten recovered mobile phones and three bags believed to
have been stolen during the robbery.
“Thanks to the timely vigilance and the intervention of community volunteers from the area, the three suspects were apprehended at their hideout in Aboabo later that same day. The volunteers handed over the suspects to the police along with ten recovered mobile phones and three bags believed to be stolen.”
The accused were arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, where all three pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. One of the convicts, Mamudu Issah, also pleaded guilty to an additional charge of causing harm.
The court handed Issah a 10-year sentence for each robbery-related count and a three-year term for the harm charge, all to run concurrently.
Takyi and Abubakari also received 10-year concurrent sentences.
The convicts have been transferred to the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving their jail terms.
“Following sentencing, the convicts were processed and transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin
serving their respective terms.”
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commended the public, particularly community volunteers, for their swift intervention and collaboration. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects linked to the robbery.
