A first-term Assembly Member for the Agogo Apentenyinase Electoral Area in the Asante Akyem North Municipality in the Ashanti Region, Kwabena Osei, has died in an apparent suicide.
The Assembly Member was found hanging from the ceiling of his home at about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7.
Confirming the incident to Citi News on Thursday, January 8, the Presiding Member for the Asante Akyem North Municipality, Frank Gyamfi, described the late Kwabena Osei as a young and promising leader in his early 30s, noting that he had spoken with him about some personal issues on Sunday before the incident.
He added that the body has been deposited at the Agogo Mortuary by the police, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
“I received a message from some of my colleagues that one of our assembly members, Kwabena Osei, is no more. I was shocked when I heard of his demise because I had spoken with him on Sunday.
“They are saying it is a suicide, but whether he committed it himself or it was done by somebody else, we cannot confirm. I do not want to preempt what the police will uncover, but he had been hanged,” he said.
