North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has hinted at his eventual exit from Parliament as he added 50 more tertiary students to his long-running scholarship scheme, bringing total beneficiaries to over 1,000 in six years.
Speaking at a Christmas event in Juapong, where the scholarships were presented, Mr. Ablakwa told students they represent the future leaders who would one day take over from him.
“We are producing engineers, lawyers, aeronautical engineers, future MPs who will take over from me, because I’ll be retiring soon,” he said.
The MP assured beneficiaries of sustained support until graduation, urging them to focus on their studies and use the funds strictly for academic purposes. He stressed that proof of fee payment would be required to qualify for future scholarship rounds.
Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed that education remains his top priority, citing ongoing investments in classrooms, dormitories, school buses, and mock examinations across the constituency.
He also revealed that a former beneficiary—the first aeronautical engineer from the area—will be sponsored by his office to pursue a master’s degree in the United States.
The MP encouraged students to work hard, remain disciplined, and “keep making me proud” as he prepares to pass the torch to the next generation of leaders.
