The Electoral Commission (EC) has indefinitely postponed the District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections that were originally scheduled for November 11, 2025.
In a notice issued on November 3 and signed by Deputy Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Fred Tetteh, the Commission announced that all planned by-elections have been “put on hold until further notice,” with new timelines to be communicated later.
The postponement affects vacancies that were to be filled across multiple districts nationwide.
The EC had earlier begun nomination processes in line with the Local Governance Act to replace Assembly and Unit Committee members who resigned or passed away.
The Commission did not state the specific reasons for the suspension but urged the public and prospective candidates to await further directives.
